Human eosinophils synthesize and secrete interleukin-6, in vitro.
Using the technique of in situ hybridization, we have shown that resting, unstimulated, human peripheral blood eosinophils, obtained from subjects with greater than 8% eosinophilia, transcribe and translate messenger RNA (mRNA) for interleukin-6 (IL-6). After incubation for 24 hours in culture medium alone, approximately 19% of eosinophils were positive for IL-6 mRNA. This may be a reflection o...
متن کاملHuman Platelets Secrete Chemotactic Activity for Eosinophils
Thrombin-stimulated platelets liberate factors that induce chemotaxis of eosinophils and raise their cytosolic Ca2+ content ([Ca2+],). The sources of this activity are the denseand a-granules because inhibition of prostaglandin endoperoxide/thromboxane A2 formation and the platelet-activating factor receptor-antagonist WEB 2086 have no effect. Platelets from patients with Storage-Pool Deficienc...

متن کاملHuman Endothelial Cells Synthesize , Process , and Secrete Fibronectin Molecules
Cellular fibronectin (Fn) bearing an alternatively spliced extra type 111 structural repeat (ED1 1 is normally present at low concentrations in blood plasma. The source of this material remains uncertain. In this study, primary cultures of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) labeled with 36S-methionine were observed to synthesize Fn monomers both with and without this segment. Monome...
متن کاملCultured human monocytes synthesize and secrete alpha2-macroglobulin
alpha2-Macroglobulin levels in the supernates of cultures of different subpopulations of human peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes were assayed by a radioimmunoassay. Unfractionated mononuclear leukocytes produced greater amounts of the macroglobulin (4.0 vs. 0.8 ng/10(6) cells) than did subpopulations enriched in T or B+T lymphocytes, by passage through nylon wool or cotton wool columns, r...
